Programación de Mentores

Through our Mentorship Program, Repertorio also believes that students can be introduced to careers in the arts such as acting, playwrights, designers, technicians, and administrators.

TEATRO ACCESO
Education Outreach Program

Without access to the arts and without a bridge to discover their cultural heritage, many young Hispanic students, particularly those from underprivileged backgrounds, will never develop an appreciation for the live theater and their cultural heritage. Through our Education Outreach Program, Repertorio seeks to:

•Share the excitement of the theatre with students
•Introduce students to their theatrical cultural heritage
•Challenge the lack of knowledge that exists about the Spanish-language culture
•Create a generation of future dramatists, theatre artists, administrators and theatergoers.

We offer a variety of opportunities to make theatre accessible and help schools integrate our work into the classroom curricula:

Low Cost: Through the support of donors, Repertorio subsidizes and lowers ticket prices for schools. Repertorio also provides “2 for 1” offers” and takes part in the “HIGH 5” program, giving students discounted tickets of $5.00 to performances. Even full-price ticket prices are low by New York City standards.

Simultaneous English Translation: All presentations are offered with simultaneous English translations. Through our infrared translation system, our non-Spanish speaking audience can attend productions and listen to a live, English version of the show.

Matinee School Day Performances: For the convenience of teachers and schools, Repertorio Español provides weekday matinees, school newsletter with advance schedules for planning, and free tickets for teachers to preview a production. As part of our commitment to make theatre a learning experience for the students , each matinee performance is accompanied by supporting materials, pre-performance lectures and post-performance Question and Answer periods.

E-Repertorio: To reach new potential audiences, Repertorio Español created a Web Site primarily aimed at teachers and students with biographies of the playwrights, synopses of the plays, history of the era the plays were written, and commentary on the plays’ subject matter. Repertorio’s Web Site allows us to publish and distribute our schedules, play synopses, interactive projects with students, and study guides across the United States and beyond.

Tours: To reach schools throughout the Northeast, we are committed to touring outside our resident theatre in New York City. All touring presentations are offered with simultaneous English translation, which allows Repertorio to present Spanish-language theatre to non-Spanish speaking students. Many performances in schools and colleges are the centerpieces of Hispanic Heritage month activities where ethnic pride is celebrated.

Contests: Each year, Repertorio Español encourages students to participate in three different contests: Best Poster, Best Review, and Best Play. Each winner is awarded a cash prize, and their entries are published in our annual newsletter, which is mailed out to more than 60,000 individuals and to more than 500 schools citywide, as well as on our Web Site.
